Which item, what specification, which supplier, what schedule?
Our Purchasing and Technical teams work closely with Original Equipment Manufacturers, MOD Integrated Project Teams and the UK National Codification Bureaus' Item of Supply Information System [ISIS] to ensure technical compliance.
We source some 200,000 items, 80,000 against Defence contracts, giving us a broad and growing supplier base.
Against each item specification, we then select the most appropriate source, based on product quality, supplier reliability, lead time and cost (which is not the same as price!).
We then place and manage supplier delivery schedules based on our own demand forecast - and because we believe in putting our money where our mouth is - we fund the inventory we buy to meet our contracted availability levels.
That way, if we get it wrong - too much or too little stock - it costs us money.
